A Guiding Light

Founded in 2023, Full On Lighting designs and manufactures personal lighting products. With decades of experience in commercial, solar-powered outdoor lighting for streets, parking lots, pathways, and parks, the company has honed its expertise in optical, LED, battery, and energy management technologies. The Victoria startup is on a mission to enhance how people work and play in the dark, aiming to revolutionize the performance and usability of personal lighting products. This initiative is crucial for increasing safety, confidence, and enjoyment during nighttime activities.

Full On Lighting’s initial market focus is on cycling, with their first product being a high-performance light for mountain biking. Upcoming products will cater to gravel riding, road riding, commuting, and e-bikes. The company emphasizes simplicity and enjoyment in customer experience, developing each product to meet the specific needs of its application. This approach ensures optimal performance, usability, and value, allowing cyclists to fully embrace their adventures, regardless of the time of day.

From the Ground Up

For Full On Lighting, it’s all about product quality.

Before designing their light, they researched, purchased, and tested the best lights available, identifying exciting areas for significant improvement. After a year of iterative development and testing, they’re proud of the functionality and performance they’ve achieved. One of the added benefits of being in the lighting industry is that when you create a great product, your customers can literally see the difference with their own eyes.

The biggest challenge for the young startup has been starting from the ground up. Despite having an initial idea, there were many unanswered questions about which design approaches and technologies would work best. Creating new things is inherently difficult and risky, but Full On Lighting’s strong focus on the whole product experience has driven them forward. Every detail has been chosen with the customer’s experience in mind, resulting in thousands of hours of testing and refinement. This deliberate approach has culminated in a product they are proud and excited to launch this year.

Time For Their Close Up

Full On Lighting is ready to bring their innovation and craftsmanship to the world. Their journey in product development has been rigorous, and now it’s time to tell their story and highlight their company through this year’s New Ventures BC Competition.

In 2010, Full On Lighting’s founders participated in the NVBC competition with a previous company, learning valuable lessons despite being eliminated in Round 2.5. This experience taught them to think bigger and contributed to that company’s remarkable success, becoming one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies for seven consecutive years. Now, those same founders are back with Full On Lighting, and they’re ready to apply those lessons and showcase their cutting-edge products.

With BC being a hub for cycling, particularly mountain biking, the NVBC competition is an ideal venue to highlight their innovations. The startup’s initial product launch is set for this summer at Crankworx Whistler, one of the world’s largest mountain bike events. This launch, coupled with a Kickstarter campaign to boost pre-sales, marks the beginning of their growth-focused strategy. Digital and content marketing will be key to establishing their brand as the high-performance light of choice for mountain biking. Later this summer, Full On Lighting will set up their production facility in Victoria to build and ship their lights and start development on their second product.
