Broadsight Technology offers a secure, web-based collaboration platform tailored for media relations and issues management teams. By addressing the lack of specialized tools, the Vancouver startup helps organizations save staff time, improve team collaboration, and enhance leadership oversight. The platform’s user-friendly systems, analytics, and reporting tools are designed to maximize productivity and efficiency, which is critical in industries that require quick turnarounds and company-wide collaboration. Unlike generic tools, Broadsight provides accessible metrics and reports that demonstrate the value of media teams, helping them build a clear case for increased budget and support.

When it comes to dealing with the media and responding to key issues, avoiding reputational damage is critical. Broadsight’s all-in-one platform gives organizations a leg up by streamlining media relations processes and giving everyone a line of sight into key media requests.

Laying the Groundwork

Over the past few years, Broadsight has laid a solid foundation for building a strong and long-term business. In 2019, they commissioned a business case study to explore potential markets, competitors, features, use cases, and technology for their MVP. From 2020 to 2022, they conducted over 170 customer discovery interviews across various industries, including post-secondary, healthcare, and municipalities. In 2021, the SaaS startup licensed their first Google Sheet-based solution to the University of Calgary, and followed that up by securing agreements with four additional universities. They used the licensing fees from these agreements to bootstrap the development of their Broadsight Tracker.

Broadsight has also taken advantage of the local tech support systems to grow their business. Last year, they completed e@UBC’s Venture Founder program and this year, they decided to enter the New Ventures BC Competition to build on their momentum. The team at Broadsight is well aware of the success that’s followed several competition alumni and they’re hoping for a similar boost as they advance through this year’s competition.

Increasing Clients, Integrating AI

Broadsight’s Founders, Kurt Heinrich and John-Jose Nunez, know that building a startup is hard. It requires a great deal of grit and perseverance, while people around you doubt the pursuit and viability of your idea. But as they build their startup and map out their growth plan, this same grit and perseverance is what’s poised to take Broadsight to the next level.

Currently, Broadsight boasts an ARR of $80,000 and 10 clients across multiple industries. The Vancouver startup is in a strong financial position with multi-year contract renewals and a clear product roadmap backed by IRAP funding.

Looking ahead, Broadsight’s growth plans focus on expanding their client base by entering new markets and geographic areas. With existing clients in the post-secondary and health sectors, they aim to onboard municipal clients soon. Technically, they plan to integrate AI to minimize data entry and develop a collaboration feature, enabling clients to work together on shared issues. This feature is expected to drive a network effect, enhancing customer acquisition and growth in the coming years.
