VeloMetro is aiming to create a “modal shift”—a massive switch of short trips completed by automobile to active transportation. By switching traffic from traditional vehicles to an electric-assisted, human powered vehicle, dramatic improvements can be seen in a city’s health due to increased exercise, less traffic, cleaner air, and lower speed transportation.
VeloMetro will be launching Veemo: the velomobile sharing network. Veemo is a one-way rental system where people can sign out an enclosed, electric-assist, pedalled vehicle. The network will allow users a new, active, and environmentally friendly way to reach their city destinations conveniently, quickly and effortlessly.
The Veemo network is an exciting vehicle sharing alternative, especially for the ever-growing number of people who are uninterested in getting their driver’s licence. Its vehicle fleet of Velomobiles can be operated in a bicycle lane, licence-free. It also is a viable alternative for people who might be interested in active transportation, but might be hesitant to cycle, whether they find it daunting, wet, inconvenient, or even unfashionable.
VeloMetro team
VeloMetro was founded by engineers Kody Baker, Jonathan Faille, and Sean Boyd, and accountant John Stoner. The founders have deep experience with Electric Vehicles (EVs) and formerly worked together at REV Technologies. They’ve since rounded out their team with additional engineers, an independent director, and a team of advisors.
The team’s passion for Electric Vehicles brought them together, and their desire to move EVs into the mainstream sparked the launch of Velometro in December, 2013. They believe their ability to merge multiple, successful technologies and business plans provides a comprehensive solution to address the issues that hold back massive modal shift.
