Appfabriqa’s flagship app, Eloqi, is a meeting place for language coaches and students with the help of a smartphone or tablet. It provides a convenient, fun way for language learners to connect with native speakers.
Co-founders Jennifer Chan and Andrew Barnes experienced the challenges of learning Spanish, while living and working abroad in Spain. They gained a good grasp of the language, but like many language learners, they had to work hard to keep up their Spanish skills after returning home to Vancouver.
Their language app, Eloqi, presents a solution for many new immigrants, expats and international students who need to learn a language to live, work, and study. It seamlessly integrates conversational training into their daily schedules, while creating a community of global-minded individuals. The app is fun to use and easy to fit into a busy schedule.
Creating a community
With Eloqi, language learning is powered by the community. Students have access to a variety of native speaking coaches to meet their personalized needs through matched interests and backgrounds. Eloqi provides experiential learning by facilitating relevant real-life conversations and providing daily micro-doses of language immersion.
Focus on effective verbal communication
Eloqi’s coaches focus on helping language learners achieve conversational fluency in social and professional environments.
The app helps students already enrolled in language classes advance their speaking and listening skills as quickly as their reading and writing skills. It is also positioned as an indispensable solution for working professionals who need to practice for interviews, meetings and presentations.
Leveling the playing field in language learning
Studies have shown that English language skills not only enhance international mobility but also social mobility. For many, language skills open doors to professional and vocational opportunities.
Traditionally, language education is offered as a standardized curriculum, often delivered in a private classroom setting. This model is expensive and hard to access in non-English speaking markets. Eloqi wants to break down those barriers and offer more affordable options by creating a community of peer learners and teachers.
