Created out of UBC’s Life Sciences Institute, Microbiome Insights CEO Malcolm Kendall, and his team of globally recognized experts, have formed an innovative service company. They are focused on microbiome analysis, the study of microbes that inhabit human, animal, agricultural and environmental systems.
Fueled by investments from companies like Danone, GSK, J&J, Merck, Nestle and Syngenta, the microbiome is one of the fastest growing areas of science, and may surpass the $10 billion genomic testing market. Microbiome Insights provides a comprehensive research service, including experimental design, sample processing, genetic sequencing, and bioinformatic data analysis for a variety of samples. As part of their IP strategy, Microbiome Insights intends to collaborate with food, diagnostic and therapeutic companies to develop products, including probiotics, and tests for more personalized approaches to medicine. While Microbiome Insights’ initial offering is research-based, the company expects to be a play a leading role in the discovery and commercialization of microbiome-focused products that will result in significant changes in major industries such as food, health, medicine and environmental science
