We are thrilled to announce our first of many top prizes in the 2014 BCIC-New Ventures Competition today.
Congratulations, MetaMixis!
The $20,000 BC Bioenergy Network Prize recognizes the top company actively involved in the commercialization of bioenergy technology. This year’s winner finished just outside of the BCIC-New Ventures BC Competition Top 10 finalists and we wanted to recognize them in advance of the Awards Ceremony, taking place September 22 in Vancouver.
Combining the powers of two exciting scientific fields, environmental genomics and synthetic biology, Cameron Strachan and Steven Hallam founded MetaMixis – an advanced environmental DNA platform.
Metamixis identifies useful DNA components by scanning the environment and harnessing the ability of microbes. For example, they are pursuing work to help tackle our reliance on petroleum – by sifting through the DNA of microbes and looking for components that can turn biomass into valuable chemicals and fuels. Who will win the remaining cash and prizes? Find out at the 14th Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, September 22nd. Limited tickets left – register today.
